If you’re in the NYC area don’t miss the grand opening of the first ever J.Crew bridal boutique at 769 Madison Avenue in New York City. Darcy Miller, Editorial Director of Martha Stewart Weddings, will host the launch party on Wednesday, June 2. View the party invite here for more details. Martha Stewart Weddings & J.Crew have also teamed up to bring you a chance to win a fantasy wedding wardrobe trip if you can’t make the launch party.
Below are the J.Crew bridal gowns for Spring 2011, they are simply adorable, I love all the vintage and feminine details!
Well, here’s some mid-week lighthearted geekiness for all you engaged couples out there. You know how I’m always saying that personalizing all the details will really make your wedding stand out? How there’s no better way to make your day an extension of your own unique personalities? Well, I can’t think of a better example than an engaged couple sending out a wedding invitation that’s actually a customized video game! It’s an old-school 8-bit side-scroller, just like Super Mario Bros, the kind of thing that reeks of happy nostalgia to geeks of my generation.
I came across this a while back on the always fun and entertaining Offbeat Bride blog, and knew I had to share it. Darina and Niko built their very own wedding invitation video game that lets their guests play as one of them, braving dangerous 8-bit terrain and bad guys in order to get the wedding day details.
“We knew that we didn’t want standard paper invites,” Darina told Offbeat Bride. “We wanted something for people to keep and remember. We are geeks. We love video games. Why not have a video game invite?”
Why not indeed.
The invitations arrived to guests in a jewel CD case with an information booklet and an original soundtrack. What a great keepsake for their friends and family, and it really doesn’t get any more personal than this. You can bet that this couple’s wedding details won’t be forgotten anytime soon!
Download the video game to play yourself here. Hope it inspires you--geek and non-geek alike--to really think outside the box and make your wedding details your own!

While scouring our wonderful Wishpot Wedding Expert’s profiles, I noticed that many of the experts had fabulous vintage or vintage inspired pieces on their wish lists. To make your wedding attire unique, use vintage items such as veils, earrings, or even shoes. One-of-a-kind pieces are sure to make you look and feel like royalty on your special day. To keep track of all of the great vintage items you find, create a vintage inspired wish list. If you get distracted while assembling your guest list and find yourself shopping online, throw your new vintage finds into your list. It will help to inspire you as you continue in your wedding preparations.
A great way to infuse your wedding dress with style is with a vintage inspired veil. Amorology Weddings, one of our wedding experts, spotted an adorable vintage veil, like this Wedding White Faschinator Veil found on Etsy. If a veil is not your style, try a headband, like this fabulous Feather Headband. Visit their site frequently for unique items for your wedding.
Throw on a distinctive necklace and add an element of vintage glamour to your wedding dress. Pair fabulous necklace, like this White Seed Bead Necklace, with a simple strapless dress and prepare to dazzle your husband-to-be.
Take a note from our experts and incorporate a few vintage inspired pieces into your wedding wardrobe. Visit our Wishpot Wedding Blog for more great ideas for your big day!

Happy Friday Everyone! Today I want to share with you a very special photo shoot taken by the talented Carla from Carla Ten Eyck Photography. This stylized Mexican wedding theme was shot for the Cinco de Mayo holiday and I have to say that Carla and the rest of the team who made this photo session possible did a fantastic job in capturing the colorful folklore of a beautiful Mexican wedding. The photo shoot took place at a family run farm in West Suffield, CT, and I’m in love with that amazing pink barn backdrop! I like their use of all the iconic symbols and folk art such as Loteria cards {Mexican bingo cards}, paper mache masks, papel picado and Mexican pastries and drinks. I also like how they incorporated ideas from the Dia de los Muertos altars by using sugar skulls, candles, skeleton figurines and family portraits. One of my favorite things is the bride’s stunning hairpiece, custom made for this shoot by the fabulous Myra from Twigs and Honey, I really, really want this hairpiece! All these details are perfect for a colorful and folkloric Mexican wedding theme any day of the year!
Check out more photos of this amazing stylized photo shoot at the beautiful Carla Ten Eyck Photography Blog and the list of professionals who made this photo shoot possible at the end of this post.
While browsing the fabulous Shyla Photography Blog, I came across this DIY project that Shyla worked on as the maid of honor for her best friend’s wedding. She handcrafted these super cute silhouette art place card frames for the guests. Each reception table was represented by a silhouette, so guests had to find their frame name and image on the picture wall and go to their corresponding table. This makes for such a pretty wedding decoration, first as a focal point with all the framed names on a wall, and then as added decor to each reception table.
Here are Shyla’s easy instruction steps. Each name card frame was comprised of 4 layers:
1. Chipboard frames spray-painted black and gold.
2. The names were printed on transparencies to act as “glass”.
3. The silhouettes were printed on cardstock and then they were handcut and assembled with a backing.
You can find very inexpensive small frames at your local craft store or dollar store. Simply do a quick search on the Internet for “silhouette portraits” and you’ll get tons of results for cute clip art images you can use for free. According to Shyla, these silhouette frames took a bit of time to make, but the results were amazing… don’t you think?
If you’re going for this classic and timeless silhouette theme wedding, something fun to have at your reception is a silhouette artist, like Karl Johnson from Cut Arts to make silhouette portraits for your guests on the spot! This could be such a unique wedding favor for guests which they can later hang on their wall and remember your special day.
Wedding videography can capture your day like no other medium, preserving the sights, sounds, and action for you to enjoy together or with family and friends anytime. And in my opinion, when it comes to a really standout wedding video, it’s all about the creativity and editing. To see what I mean, check out the following very cool cinematic piece put together by Casey at Mind|Castle Studios and Patrick at Stillmotion Photo & Cinema for the wedding of Joyce and Raymond:
I came across this impressive piece on the exceptional Junebug Weddings blog, and I think it’s the perfect example of this style. Cinematic editing takes all those great details and imagery–many of which you will have missed yourself in the whirlwind blur of your day–and puts it into a beautiful moving visual collage to be preserved forever.
Such an absolute enjoyable piece to watch, and the fact that these video gurus did all the editing on the day of, at the wedding location itself, is even more impressive. Bravo!
Thinking of having an outdoor garden wedding? If you or someone you know has a beautiful garden that will accommodate your guest list, why not have your special wedding in a garden setting? This is the perfect environment for a smaller, more intimate event during the spring or summer months. Here’s my interpretation of a sweet and romantic garden wedding with vintage details, rustic furniture pieces, and pretty bridal and bridesmaids’ gowns. Surround yourself with colorful flowers and nature itself…what more can you ask for? Home weddings have such character and personality; I love them!
The Zinke Summer & Fall 2010 Collection is so versatile and super sexy; with their mix-n-match concept you can express your own sexy fashion and taste. Zinke describes their line as “a young-minded, fashion-forward label of intimates and loungewear.” Zinke is the creation of sisters Arin Robinson and Jessie Zinke, and their blog is absolute amazing, packed full of beautiful inspirational boards. I’ve often referenced personal wedding websites as a great tool for getting information out to your guests. It centralizes all your information in one universally accessible place, and is a great alternative to expensive, bulky mailed invitation enclosures.
Another invaluable tool for keeping guests current on important updates or wedding-related news–such as a last-minute scheduling change–is an email mailing list service.
Such a service lets your guests sign themselves up to receive important updates by email. It should provide a mechanism for guests to unsubscribe if they like, and an interface where you can easily post your updates and notices.
It makes sense for both your mailing list and wedding website to function together, centralizing all the information as well as the mailing list tools. You can request guests to sign up for your mailing list, with a link to the sign-up form, on your website’s home page.
WedShare’s pre-designed News and Updates page makes it easy to create and maintain your own mailing list service. You easily post important updates to this page with the same full-featured interface you use to create page content, and each entry will be automatically sent to your registered mailing list. Plus, you can designate any notice as a home page alert; such alerts will pop up on your website home page to get the attention of guests who may not have added themselves to your list yet.
Easy setup options for your own mailing list service on the WedShare control panel's News and Updates page. Also available is a link to view and manage all recipients in your current list
Any individual mailing list broadcast can also be added as an alert to your wedding website's home page. You can also specify the alert to be removed after a certain number of days.
Guests can easily subscribe or unsubscribe to your mailing list
Posts you designate as an alert are displayed to all visitors to your wedding website
A major part of your wedding planning will be communication, so don’t neglect this very convenient and helpful tool!
