I’m a total antique furniture junkie and love to repurpose pieces of furniture that have a shabby chic flair. And I absolutely love it when I see couples incorporating vintage furniture pieces for their wedding displays. If you have a special family heirloom piece you would like to use in your wedding, or you got lucky with a great find at your local flea market or antique store, there are many ways to incorporate a fabulous piece of furniture. Use an old hutch or a bookcase to display pictures, store your wedding gifts, or create something creative like a candy bar station. Use an antique dresser, chest or a nostalgic index card file cabinet to hold escort cards, your guestbook, or to even place your wedding cake at your reception site. These pieces can be very chic and perfect for a vintage style wedding.
I wanted to introduce a brand new nonprofit organization, Wish Upon a Wedding, dedicated to granting weddings and civil union ceremonies at destinations across the United States for couples facing life-threatening illnesses. It’s the only organization of its kind today. The group is just now accepting applications for wedding wishes, and will be drawing on a regional database of wedding vendors to coordinate granting those wishes for recipients.
Wish Upon a Wedding was founded by San Jose wedding planner Liz Guthrie of San Jose Wedding Consultants, and will be drawing upon a regional database of wedding vendors in their quest to make wedding wishes come true. Props to Liz and San Jose Wedding Consultants for all their thoughtfulness, time and effort putting this together. How meaningful this can be for so many couples facing challenges I can’t imagine.
To celebrate their launch, Wish Upon a Wedding will be hosting a party tonight from 6:30pm - 9:30pm at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, CA. The details are provided at the following RSVP Page. I am planning on attending, and look forward to congratulating the group on their launch. If you’re local, please do drop by and support them. Hope to see you there!
Here’s part 2 of my wedding rain boot fashion post…for that special day that just happens to be a rainy one. Rain boots come in many fun and funky styles, colors and patterns. Choose from plain solid colors, polka dots, animal prints, florals, themed designs, checkered, or plaid patterns. Boot heights also vary but I prefer the classic tall or mid-calf rain boots myself, with the all-terrain 0.5″ heel like the ones below. If you didn’t catch my previous blog post, go to part 1 to check out some brides wearing rain boots at their outdoor photo sessions.
Here are some of my favorite chic and flirty rain boots available out there today, perfect for any bride!

During the rainy season, I’ve seen more and more brides putting on their rain boots to go into the wet and muddy outdoors for some fun shots. I love rain boots, and nowadays you can find just about any color and pattern designs you can think of. Give a pop of color to your outdoor engagement or wedding photo session!
Just take your rain boots with you this rainy season to switch it up a bit and you’ll get some really cool shots like the ones below. Match your personality or your wedding colors. You can even have the bridesmaids join you with matched or mismatched rain boots while you take some outdoor photos. It’s a fun look and you don’t get to ruin your fancy shoes in bad weather.
Come back tomorrow to check out some of my favorite rain boot findings in Part 2!
From the recent Golden Globes to famous celebrity weddings, purple is the new and trendy color for gowns and weddings! This month Wishpot gives you tips and ideas for your gorgeous purple wedding.
When it comes to a purple wedding, the bride can add a few little things to her white dress that will add some spice to it. Wearing purple pumps like these BCBGeneration Dante Pumps will make a statement while you walk down the aisle! You can also take tips from celebrity weddings like Khloe Kardashian. She had a gorgeous purple/lavender wedding which can serve for a great place for inspiration. Khloe sported one of our favorite new wedding trends today…the SASH! Putting a sash around your wedding dress is a great way to make any traditional white dress look more elegant and unique.
What about decorations and favors? One of our favorite wedding favors are these awesome personalized travel candle tins which are a fun personal way to say thank you to your guests. And for decorations, save money on these beautiful purple and lavender silk rose petals. Putting them in the middle of all your guests tables will add more sophistication and serenity to your wedding.
When it comes to the wedding party, the bridesmaid dresses should be flattering on all shapes and sizes. This is why this short dark purple bridesmaid dress from Nordstrom is a perfect match for your wedding! And last but definitely not least…for the groom, add the perfect touch to his tux with a purple tie!
Every bride needs a little purple in her life. For more ideas on wedding dresses, décor, and more visit www.wishpot.com/weddings!

Here is Part 2 of Jen & Jason’s vintage inspired wedding anniversary session. Just as she does in her blog, Green Wedding Shoes, Jen gives us tons of inpiration by styling her own one-year wedding anniversary photo session. Couple her great taste and attention to detail with the amazing photography of Caroline Tran to get the following stunning images.
I really like it when couples use props and furniture pieces in unexpected places; in this case, a lovely upholstered arm chair in an outdoors setting. It’s such a great way to give your photos that artistic vintage feel.
Jen’s cute hairpieces are from Untamed Petals, her dresses from Heritage 1981 and Forever 21, and her brown boots from Steve Madden. Jason’s vest, tie and hat are from Urban Outfitters. If you haven’t already, check my previous post on Part 1 of this Vintage Wedding Anniversary.
To read more about Jen’s styling advice and adventures from this photo shoot, check out her post on Green Wedding Shoes. Also check out more photos of Part 2 at Caroline Tran’s beautiful photography blog.
I’m excited to share this beautiful wedding anniversary photo session styled by Jen from Green Wedding Shoes, one of my absolute favorite wedding blogs. Jen not only styled this session, but was also the subject! That’s right, this beautiful couple is Jen and her husband Jason who celebrated their one year wedding anniversary and decided to treat themselves to a special love photo session! The talented Caroline Tran did an amazing job capturing their vision, with all its vintage inspired details. I love the idea of doing a special photo session for your wedding anniversary. Such an inspiration for those of us who would love to have some nice, professional photos done as a married couple, other than our wedding day portraits. Love the picnic scene under that gorgeous tree! Jen and Jason had the cutest wardrobe matching the color scheme of all the vintage details.
Check out Jen’s Green Wedding Shoes post to read more about her inspiration in styling this photo shoot and also visit Caroline Tran’s photography blog to view many more photos of this beautiful day.
Hope everyone’s having a great week! Here in northern California we’re soaking up storm after storm as they blow in from the Pacific; we had some great lightning and thunder shows this evening to boot. I hope you’re all staying warm, dry, and safe.
Couple things I wanted to touch on today: the first is a reminder for our Most Creative Personal Wedding Website contest, which is ongoing. I’ve seen some great entries going by so far! Keep ‘em coming; remember to submit your wedding website by February 1st and to check our Fan Page for details.
Secondly–and speaking of Valentine’s Day–I found an online jeweler (the first of many, I’m sure) celebrating the coming holiday-O-romance with a discount sale. Online jeweler May Leigh is offering 20% off your entire order and free gift packaging with all purchases, to celebrate their new website and Valentine’s day. In a statement this month, the jeweler noted that their new website is designed to be more efficient and easier to use, leading to lower costs for their customers.

May Leigh’s Louise Chen explained: “Around Valentine’s Day people are always looking for extra special gift ideas for loved ones and family. I saw the best wedding cocktail book at my local bookstore the other day, The Bubbly Brideâ„¢ - Your Ultimate Wedding Cocktail Guide by Natalie Bovis-Nelsen. It’s the perfect book for those couples thinking about having their very own signature wedding cocktail. Natalie Bovis-Nelsen, aka “The Liquid Muse”, is a beverage consultant and mixologist. She’s also creator and editor of TheLiquidMuse.com, which “highlights global beverage trends and bridges the gap between cocktail culture and the savvy consumer”, with lots of cocktail recipes featured there as well.
The Bubbly Bride covers everything from bubbly basics to low-calorie and specialty cocktail ideas. This brand new book provides over 70 cocktail recipes and a ton of advice on how to create a personalized concoction for your special events.
